MyTake on Music

Musical Genius?

Well, I don't know about GENIUS, but I do really like this song. I wrote it myself, and it's all performed by me on an Epiphone Vintage G400 SG. The editing was done by myself with a very cheap program known as Guitar Tracks 2. I'm planning on putting in a comment line, so you can all tell me what you think.

What are you waiting for?! Check It Out!

Weird Al in Concert

Al in Amish Paradise

Al and the gang are currently on the Poodle Hat Tour. I recently had the pleasure of seeing the show. The concert is certaintly worth seeing. He must play atleast 27 songs, { hmmm, were did that number come from } if You count the two medelys. He even adds a few songs that aren't on any studio albums { I know because I own them all err.. that's cool right }. So, if you want to honestly say you've heard every Weird Al song, you must see this concert.

He opens with the "Angry White Boy Polka" and plays almost every big hit off every album. To accomplish this in less than 27 hours { gosh, there it is again } he played a medely containing every thing from my bologna to bad. "Amish Paradise" and "All About the Pentiums" are incredible live. And the "Fat" costume was surprisingly realistic. I planned on posting 27 pictures { Okay this is getting weird } ,but Most didn't turn out. Sorry.

But, perhaps the funniest part of the whole evening were the video sketches that palyed during costume changes. These contained familiar as well as never before seen footage from his movie "UHF" and VH1 special "Al TV" which airs again AUG 15 & 16. Not to mention original shorts with some familiar actors and a gag MTV commercial that pits Al and the gang getting back to the roots of their music. I suspect that will show up on MTV in the coming months. Anyway, This concert gets an A+. See ya MyTakers. I've got like 27 other things to do right
now { jeeze }.

P.S. Extra points if you got the 27 jokes.

New Led Zeppelin Live DVD & CD Sets

Led Zeppelin's new live DVDGet ready cause this is big. Led Zeppelin has just released a new DVD containing two live concerts, and virtually all the video recorded in the bands history. About five and a half hours of footage. I know a pretty packed DVD, but When you consider that this is everything filmed of the band it doesn't seem like much. Jimmy Page explains in an interview with Guitar World that the band didn't make many television performances, because They refused to play if they couldn't play a whole set with something short like Whole Lotta Love and something long like Dazed and confused. The band believed that would give people a better idea of what the band was up to at the time. Since most pop music shows ( like Top Of The Pops ) wouldn't allow that they decided not to promote the band on television past the one or two spots that appear on the DVD. The DVD does contain however two live concerts. One is from 1970, and The other is from 1973. Many are claiming this makes the irrefutable claim that zeppelin was the best live band ever. Expect to here all the improvising that made the band famous for it's live shows. All this for a surprisingly low price. I found it for $22.75, but I understand list is around $27.99. A small price to pay for those of us who never even had the chance to see the band live.

What about the CD?

How the West Was Won I'm glad you asked. The cd entitled "How The West Was Won" ( probably a pun on how they were a british band that won over an american audience with it's live shows ) is a three cd set that contains live performances of Led Zeppelin's greatist hits. Not mention just like the dvd its been digitally remastered in Dolby Digital Surround Sound.

Incredible

Nobody Doesn't Like Led Zeppelin

Okay, maybe someone doesn't like them, but Even they should. Led Zeppelin is arguably the most dramatically influential band in history. Even Elvis fails to oust them. Before you get all upset over my last statement like it was the word of God saying you suck, think about it. Elvis definitely revolutionised music, but He often sang songs he didn't even wright. If it wasn't for Elvis there woudn't be a Led Zeppelin. However, Zeppelin through sheer force of will took what the likes of Chuck Berry invented, Elvis made mainstream, and the Beatles perfected and re-perfected it. They created something completely new and influenced ( either directly or indirectly ) every single rock musician since. That's why MyTake says Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, John Paul Jones, We salute you.

WEIRD AL'S NEW ALBUM "POODLE HAT"
REVIEWED

Poodle Hat Cover I know I know. You're surprised Weird Al is still alive. Shame on you. If you were like me you'd have all his old cd's already, and You'd have known about this one for months ( yes, I am that cool ). So let's get started.

Here are the tracks in full unordered list formation:

  • Couch Potato, parody of Eminem's Lose Yourself

  • Hardware Store,

  • Trash Day, of Nelly's Hot in Herre

  • Party at the Leper Colony,

  • Angry White Boy Polka,

  • Wanna B Ur Lovr,

  • A Complicated Song off of my much hated Complicated by Avril Lavigne

  • Why Does This Always Happen to Me

  • Ode to a Superhero parody of Billy Joel's Piano Man

  • Bob

  • E-Bay parody of the Backstreet Boys' I Want It That Way

  • Genius in France

Weird Al has outdone himself again, and Knowing how he hates to be outdone, I expect him to inact a swift revenge on himself. Maybe humiliating photos of himself from the Christmas party! But back to buisness. This is a really good album. I liked "Running with Scissors", ( his last album ) but not as much as "Bad Hair Day" ( album before last ). This one ,however, just might be his best. So here's an individual track reveiw in another MyTake unordered list:

  • Couch Potato is a classic Weird Al television song done more cleverly than you might have expected ( however he has done many t.v. songs but I still love them). A+

  • Hardware Store, although entirely funny through out, really shines when the chorus shows you just how ecstatic a very bored young man can get about a hardware store. A+

  • Trash Day contains little predictable material, but Most of it is so original you'll be in stitches. A++

  • Party at the Leper Colony is the albums only low point. Essentially the same leper joke again and again. I gotta it's probably be funny enough for most, but The songs slow pace and ( at least for me ) gross out factor keep it from being included amongst my Al elite. C

  • Angry White Boy Polka is a song idea taylor made for me. I love the idea of making fun of those guys. I mean Fred Durst make entertaining pop music, but He seems to think he's an artist the calibur of Mozart. Now this one doesn't get a grade because it's not really a song of a parody, but A mix of popular songs ( some bad, some really good like the song "Outside" ) done pokla style. It's to funny to miss so listen to it.

  • Wanna B Ur Lovr is much better than leper colony and very funny, but It still falls victim to that slow pace ( I don't like waiting for jokes unless they're the funniest ever ). B

  • A Complicated Song, Just listen to it. I won't give away this one surprise line value. A+++

  • Why does this Always Happen to Me, see above. But be prepared for the verse about a car crash. A

  • Ode to a Superhero, IF you've seen Spiderman or know the story you'll love it. A+

  • Bob, remember Bob means Bob Dylan. Read along with the lyrics only after listening to it once. You'll think it was Bob himself. Hope I didn't spoil it. A
  • E-bay, I'm getting tired of typing so let's just say it's funny and leave it at that. B+

  • Genius in France, Cover your ears if you're french. If you're not it's very long, but worth it. B

  • Poodle Hat the new Weird Al album gets an A+
